Project Manager I Asma Alomari
Salam, I am Asma Kamal Suleman Alomari. I am Arab and Black. My mother is Claudette Hubert Alomari from Fluvanna County, Virginia. My father is Kamal Suleman Ahmad Alomari from Kufr Asad, Irbid, Jordan. I was born in Richmond, Virginia, and I was raised between Richmond and Fluvanna County. I spent most of my summers and springs gardening and growing with my maternal grandmother. I received a B.S. in Sociology and a B.A. in Gender Studies and Women’s studies from Virginia Commonwealth University. My focus was on labor movements, anti-colonial movements, and gender equity. I have worked for many non-profits in Virginia, including organizations focused on student advocacy, elder assistance, prison resentencing. I moved to Alaska in the fall of 2022 through the Alaska Fellows Programs, a 9-month residential fellowship, where I worked with the Alaska Space Grant Program at UAF. This position allowed me to travel all across the state, and I decided to stick around! Before coming to ANTHC, I worked with the Alaska Community Foundation as the scholarship program officer. I enjoy cooking, baking, fishing, and very long bike rides. You can generally find me after work planning big elaborate meals for my loved ones. Fun fact: I have over 100 first cousins.
