Hepatitis C Screening and Treatment in Rural Communities

The nation, including Alaska, is experiencing high rates of new hepatitis C cases due to the opioid epidemic and injecting substance use.

This CE includes information on hepatitis C, who should be screened, risk factors, pre-treatment evaluation, medicines, and follow-up. You will learn about the correct hepatitis C screening blood test to send to the lab. You will recognize the importance of early treatment to prevent the progression of liver disease, which can lead to cirrhosis, liver failure, liver cancer, and death.

We expect you to gain practical knowledge that will help you increase hepatitis C screening in your community. Upon completion, you will understand the importance of screening all adults and linking patients with hepatitis C to healthcare providers for treatment.
