Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a collaborative process of communication that can enhance the patient/provider relationship. Whether the patient is seeking care for physical health or experiencing behavioral health issues, Motivational Interviewing pairs communication strategies with a spirit of empathy and acceptance to invite patients to make changes for the good of their health. Participants will practice using MI skills through lecture, video presentation, and group work in this 90 minute presentation.
- Identify the 5 components of Motivational Interviewing.
- Recognize the link between MI and the Stages of Change.
- Apply the MI skills learned in the patient setting.
- Identify the role your patients play in the Care Team.
